Scallop Art (using a circle punch)

Hey ya'll! So today I'm joining in on The Pinterest Challenge. If you've never heard of it before it is this fun challenge to create something you were inspired by on Pinterest. I love pinning things so to actually see them come to life is so much fun! Last year I made a flower mirror using spoons

This time I decided to tackle this cool thing I saw someone do with a circle punch. They punched out circles from colorful card stock paper and made it into art. Here is how mine turned out.

This was my inspiration.

I'm loving scallop prints right now! I really wanted to incorporate it in my living room in some way. So when I saw this awesome art on Pinterest, I knew I had to take my spin on it.

It was super super easy to make.

All you need is:

Some colorful paper (I bought 6 sheets from a craft store)
A circle puncher (mine is 1 3/4")
A glue stick
Pencil
Ruler

I took the pencil and ruler and made lines 3/4" apart on a piece of card-stock paper. I did this so I could line up my circles easy. You want to make sure your circles overlap so you get the scallop effect. Then I just got at it with the glue. I did the colors in random order.

Here is what it looked after it was glued and the sides were trimmed.

I really love the way it turned out! I borrowed the frame I used the other day for the "New Shoes" printable I made so I need to go get another frame for it. I love how easy this was and how it is so versatile  I used these colors because they fit my living room well, but you could go with so many different ideas for it.

I'm joining the link parties of Young House LoveBower Power, Sparkle Meets Pop, and Red Bird Blue.

Free New Shoes Song Printable {My First Printable!}

Hey Ya'll! Today I wanted share a printable I made last week. This is the first one I've ever made so I know it's not perfect, but I really loved the way it turned out.

My boys love a song called "New Shoes" by Paolo Nutini. It is so catchy and just a fun song to sing. I was looking for something that was personal to frame as art in our house. And this is one of those songs our whole family just loves. So I got on PicMonkey and made this printable.

I put it in a white frame at Target I bought on sale awhile back.

I really like the way it turned out. It makes me smile when I look at it. Which I love. I feel like our homes should be full of things that make us happy and reflect our personalities and this art really fits us well.

I would love to share it with anyone who wants it. I'm new at this but I put it on Google Docs and anyone who wants to download it using this link is welcome to it!

If there is any problems downloading it or if you have any questions, just let me know!

Five Favorite Things Fridays

Hey ya'll! Welcome to my second Five Favorite Things post. This is where I tell ya'll about five things I'm loving right now...

1) NARS Blush/ Bronzer Duos. Oh my goodness. They make the best blush ever. If you can get past their weird names. So weird I'm not even gonna mention the names of the colors on here. I just bought my first NARS blush/bronzer duo from Sephora last Saturday. They are just so pretty. I can't get over them. I don't normally spend a lot of money on makeup so this was a real "splurge" for me. But, oh so worth it. And going makeup shopping with a couple of girlfriends makes it even more of a favorite thing for me.

2) That my boys like Spiderman. I seriously love that they are at an age where they like dressing up like superheros. I think it is the cutest thing ever.

3) Getting a box of party supplies in the mail. This was taken a few weeks ago when I got some things for a kids' party we threw a few weeks back. Oh how fun is getting party stuff in the mail?! We were so excited. I think I was more excited than the kids! It's just fun mail. I love fun mail.

(We did a Wreck it Ralph theme, I'll be posting more about it later!)

4) Survivor. Have ya'll been watching that show? Oh I am so addicted. I've only watched the last couple of years but I am so hooked on it now. This season has been sooooo good. It is the top thing on my DVR list right now!

5) White bedding. I'm a little obsessed with white bedding right now. It just draws you in doesn't it? My bedding on my bed right now is a dark purple and I'm dying to replace it with a fluffy white duvet cover like the one in this Pottery Barn picture.....But, then I saw the price. A girl can dream tho right? I bet I could dream even better in a bed like this, ha! I'm just gonna have to start saving my pennies or start looking for something cheaper...

Those were my favorite things this week.
Thanks for stopping by!
I hope everyone has a good weekend!

My ceiling fan makeover

I am so excited to share with ya'll the latest project I've done!

I used to have this big eyesore in my living room...

My old, ugly ceiling fan. It used to have a cover for the light but I hated it. It was a yellowy orange color so the whole room had a weird color because of it. It was probably a year after we moved in that I took the light cover off, sold it in a yard sale and told myself I would take the fan down soon...

I didn't. In fact it's hung there, bare bulb and all, a lot longer than I would like to admit. But at least there's not a yellowy orange cast all over the room now, right? Having a bare bulb was a big improvement right? Uh not so much!

I eventually want to replace the fan with a pretty chandelier. But since I don't have the funds for a new light fixture at the moment, I decided to update the fan we have. I wanted to make it a little easier on the eyes while we had to live with it.

So first I took off the blades. I took apart most of it to take outside to paint. I did paint one part of it inside the house. I just made sure to tape it off really well and I laid an old blanket underneath to catch any drips just in case.

I gave everything a good cleaning before I painted. I used an oil rubbed bronze spray paint with a primer in it. Goodbye brass! Good riddance!

Once I had the blades off, I saw that the other side looked a lot better than what was originally showing on the fan. So I decided to attach them back with the dark side showing.

I then took a lamp shade I found at target a couple weeks ago. It was love at first sight with this lamp shade. I took a wire hanger and tied it around it so it would stay on my fan. It really doesn't look too pretty when you look straight up. Thankfully it's over my table so you really can't see the inside unless you lean across the table and look up. I'm sure I could probably make it a lot prettier looking inside if I wanted to. And I probably will take it off and work with making it look better. I was just so excited to get it up there, ha!

I really wanted to show ya'll this picture tho because it can kind of give you an idea how you can attach a lamp shade to a ceiling fan.

Much better right? Here's a little side by side for comparison.

So for $16 for the lamp shade and the cost of a little spray paint, I got rid of an eyesore.

So has anyone else got rid of an eyesore lately? I have a few more in my house I need to tackle!
